The Persephone Theory

Big props to whoever came up with this theory. With the release of Fragile Eternity coming up, speculation of what will happen in Melissa Marr's third book in the Wicked Lovely series is going around. Here are the roles that supposedly the FE characters play in the third book.

Seth - Persephone
Aislinn - Demeter
Sorcha - Hades
Keenan - Zeus
Donia - Helios
Tavish - Hermes

Go to the wickedlovely.com podcast to hear the full discussion.

Basically in the Persephone myth Hades goes to Zeus and gets consent of making Persephone his bride. He abducts Persephone and takes her to the underworld. Demeter, Persephone's mother searches for her and eventually goes to the sun god, Helios who sees everything, and asks where her daughter is. Helios tells her exactly what happened and Demeter then goes to Zeus demanding she get her daughter back. Zeus refuses but reconsiders when Demeter, who is the goddess of grain, becomes very sad which makes the crops wither, making mortals hungry. Zeus sends Hermes to get Persephone back before she eats anything in the underworld. But when Hermes arrives he discovers that Hades tricked Persephone into eating six pomegranate seeds. Demeter and Hades argue over the fact and Zeus comes to the decision that for six months Persephone will stay with Hades and for the remaining six months Persephone will stay with her mother.

So the theory is that Seth gets sent away to Sorcha by Keenan because there is the possibility of Seth learning what Keenan did to Niall in Ink Exchange and blabbing away to Aislinn. That's the worst thing to happen to Keenan because he needs Aislinn to keep summer intact. So Keenan sends Seth to Sorcha because Sorcha takes the sighted mortals. Aislinn searches for Seth because she's in love with him. If there's one person Aislinn turns to besides Seth, it's Donia. Donia like Helios who sees everything, sees everything that Keenan does. Maybe not in a literal sense, but she is aware of just how far Keenan will go to. Donia tells Aislinn what happened. Aislinn goes to Keenan demanding Seth be returned. Keenan will refuse. When he refuses, Aislinn will most likely neglect her duties as summer queen, which changes Keenan's mind. So Keenan will send Tavish, (in the role of Hermes; the messenger of the gods) who was once apart of the High court to get Seth. In INK we learned Tavish was off negotiating with the High court (kind of like a messenger). So I think it makes most sense for Tavish to play that particular role. But like everybody who speculated this the conclusion is a bit fuzzy. My guess is that like Persephone, Seth will have to pay the price of staying with Sorcha, maybe not forever but still for some amount of time. I shudder the thought but I also guess like Persephone he may have to become Sorcha significant other, if you know what I mean. I think Sorcha might fall in love with Seth.

So that's the Persephone Theory for those of you who didn't know. I think Maria back at the Rath & Ruins forum did a much better job at explaining it than me. LOL.

In other news, Melissa Marr has updated her blog. http://melissa-writing.livejournal.com/
